My parents, Rod & Sue Dubber met at university and soon the idea of forming a business came into fruition. My Dad concentrated on designing and manufacturing bespoke kayaks while mum made canoe clothing that grew from ‘Style of Hull’ to the first ‘Wet & Wild’ shop in 1988.
In 2011 I took over the reins from my parents and rejuvenated the project. I have worked four winter seasons in the Alps and in New Zealand. In between I travelled around the world exploring and finding adventures. Now that I am home I am can be found exploring our coast in ‘Rhubarb and Custard’ my aptly named sea kayak (occasionally with a rod in hand in the hope of some fish).
We are, and always have been a family business, a family that enjoys the sports we sell kit for. We are all keen kayakers, in a range of disciplines. We also enjoy our yearly trips skiing as well as exploring the beautiful British countryside which includes camping, cycling and walking. We also have an extended family of ‘team members’ who venture and explore for us. They share their passion of the sports and relay this to our customers.
We want you to be well equipped to enable you to have the best adventures and we work hard to ensure that our store has a large selection of quality products covering a price range to suit your budget. We are not simply a web shop formed in a living room with no stock. Our store is an 'Aladdin’s cave' of goodies that you can touch and sample and we try to stock everything that we sell on the website. We will admit some items are shipped direct from our warehouse, but you will easily be able to find out if we hold it in store from the item description. If you don’t find what you want just give us a call or email and we will arrange to get the item in store for you. We are constantly uploading more and more of our stock onto the site but it is a very time consuming job.
We understand it can be a minefield out there when trying to find the product you want and if our website doesn't guide you we will happily assist and advise you in your search.. The snow department includes a full boot and ski service plus a hire facility for all your skiing needs. In the water department we can fit your kayak out so that that it suits you perfectly and we also construct paddles so again the product is perfect for your needs. We can often be found fitting out fishing kayaks in store, installing fish finders and anchor trollies for example.
Over the years the shop has supported many charity events. Close to the family’s heart are ‘Macmillian’ and ‘Canderlighters’ - both of which look after children with cancer. We also help raise money for the ‘RNLI’ and last year added ‘Hero’s on the Water’ to our fold.
We have strong links with the local clubs and often assist and join in with events being hosted by them.
We want to share our passion for sports and adventure with you and our aim is to help in any way we can.
